Akita has long fostered sake brewing made with rice, being one of the highest producing regions in Japan, and today is home to 35 breweries offering its distinctive taste, but beer and wine made with spring water from the eastern mountains are also excellent.

Meat

Hinai Jidori is a brand chicken synonymous with Akita food. Chickens are raised free range for more than 100 days, which gives them leaner muscles for a firm texture with an appetizing smell. There are also brand beef such as the Akitagyu, rice-fed Kuroge Wagyu with a melt-in-your-mouth texture.

Noodles

Elastic noodles that smoothly slip down your throat, "Inaniwa Udon" are hand prepared by artisans and are often counted as one of the three great udon of Japan. Other notable famous noodles such as ramen or "yakisoba", stir fried noodles married with worcestershire sauce, are found throughout the region and perfect for a bite on a budget.

Seafood

Akita has a proud offering of seafood from the Sea of Japan such as seasonal fish great for sashimi, and plump creamy summer oysters. Try other local food like the "Ishiyaki Ryori", a unique gastronomical performance where scalding stones are thrown into soups to heat them up.
