Inukko Festival

This is a folk festival in which people pray for protection from theft and evil. Snow shrines are built, in front of snow shrines small dogs (inukko) made of rice flour are placed as offerings. An atmosphere of fantasy is created when candles are lit in the snow shrine, highlighting the contrast between the dark of winter and the white dog statues.
