The Nishimonai Bon Odori Dance is a historically rich custom that has been performed in Ugo for nearly 700 years. It is a form of ancestor worship as well as an annual ritual by which locals pray for a good harvest. Festivities surrounding this dance take place every year between August 16 and 18. After the sun sets, participants in the bon odori don crescent-shaped straw hats and black cloth masks; the dancers then form a circle and dance an elegant dance that has been passed down from generation to generation.
