Lake Towada is a double caldera lake formed from a volcanic cave-in approx. 200,000 years ago.
The lake is 327m deep, extends approx. 10km east to west and approx. 8 km north to south, and its
clear water is highly transparent. The free-flowing blue water against the all-white background is striking
during the winter, as are the new leaves at the beginning of May and the colorful leaves of
the surrounding mountains in the fall, making the area a must-see for visitors.
