In winter, be careful of the road conditions around Hakkoda as snow may accumulate. Also, the area around Tsuta Onsen has sharp curves, so be sure to drive carefully too.

Walk along a 14 km long stream from Nenokuchi on the east side of Lake Towada to Yakeyama on the northeast side of the lake, while being surrounded by the sound of murmuring water. The lush trees, more than a dozen waterfalls, ever-changing beautiful streams, and mysteriously shaped rocks and scenic spots create a beautiful mountain stream, and the seasonal beauty of nature will soothe your soul. The best time to enjoy the fresh greenery is from May to June, and the autumn leaves begin to change color in early October, reaching their peak around mid to late October. Bicycle rentals are available from April to November, so you can enjoy cycling too.

The lake was formed by the accumulation of rainwater over a long period of time in a sinkhole created by volcanic activity that began about 200,000 years ago. Reflecting the sky and mountains like a mirror, it is a magnificent sight created by nature.
There are many viewing spots, such as the Hakka Pass Observatory, where you can see the inlet and mountains, and the sightseeing boats going by; and the Shimeitei Observatory, where Lake Towada looks like a heart. The scenery changes seasonally, from fresh green to autumn leaves, so it is always breathtaking no matter how many times you visit.
