It holds special exhibitions of outstanding works from both Japan and overseas. It houses many works by Akita artists, including Akita ranga(Dutch-style) paintings by Satake Shozan and Odano Naotake. It also has a memorial annex for Okada Kenzo, whose works were highly rated in New York.
